DMU Futsal vs UOL Futsal preview

De Montfort University's futsal team will look to end the first day of Varsity on a high note as the first and second team take on the University of Leicester at 6pm tonight at the Queen Elizabeth II leisure centre.

DMU's first team has had a extended run of wins in their BUCS season, where they were able beat the UOL 1's side twice to achieve a third place finish in the Men's Midlands Tier 1.

Jamie Hallas' side come into this match with a fire underneath them after their most recent result, a home loss against Durham University in the National trophy.

DMU's second team also managed a third place finish in the Midlands third tier after a strong showing throughout the season. This will be the second time that these two teams have met this season, with UOL taking a 8-7 win in their previous match in the Men's Midlands Conference Cup.

It was a disappointing year for both University of Leicester teams, as their first team could only manage two wins across the BUCS season. They ended in fifth place narrowly avoiding last place and with a -25 goal difference, they will need to be careful that a DMU side capable of causing headaches don't run riot.

It didn't get much better for Leicester's second team either, they were only being able to pick up one league win against bottom side Staffordshire 2's. However, the previous result between UOL's and DMU's side will give the away team a confidence boost that could see them take the advantage.

Even with a poor season for UOL 1's, one player stands out immensely and that is the third top scorer in the division Jake Johnston. He will be the player to watch for UOL 1's this evening.

DMU 1's will be looking towards Ryan Griffiths to lead the team and not allow their opposition to get in their minds. His role may be the most important on the court tonight in what may be the biggest game of the year for both teams.

For DMU's second team, it is the player of the season Sam Bonser that is the most likely to make a difference in this match. He will be looking to show off why he has been given the award in front of a big crowd.

UOL will have to hope for a big performance from 2's goalkeeper Maximus Gordon tonight to keep DMU at bay tonight. A lot will be asked from him tonight and he may be the key factor as to whether UOL pick up a win or a loss tonight.
