DMU 1'S 3-7 Durham 1's: DMU ends season in defeat

DMU's futsal 1's BUCS season ends in defeat after a quarter-final defeat against Durham's futsal 1's at the QE2 Leisure Centre on Sunday 8th March.

Goals from Saad Hamrad and Godwin Chikwem were not enough to stop Eddie Robertson's side from making it to the semi-finals of the national trophy.

It was a slow start for DMU as they struggled to break down a defensively sound Durham squad. Marwan Baslam came close for the home side eight minutes in as his chance was deflected for a corner by goalkeeper Florian De Kort.

It was Durham to strike first, as Ollie Wilkes was able to beat Dominic Mainwaring in goal 15 minutes into the match to give the away side a deserved lead. Wilkes would score again only two minutes later as Jamie Hallas' side were unable to cope with this burst of energy.

Godwin Chikwem would get one back for DMU shortly after a strong effort had the beating of De Kort as the home side tried to stabilise before half time.

However, Sam Utting would extend Durham's lead again seconds before the half time break as he buried a free kick into the home net as the home side had a dismal first half to try and recover from.

DMU's fortunes would go from bad to worse as Jonas Buceuicius put Durham 4-1 up within the first minute of the second half.

The first ten minutes of the second half would include Utting grabbing his second goal of the match and Ben Crew getting on the scoresheet as well. Saad Hamrad would get DMU's second goal but they needed five more to equal the game.

A hard job for the home side would become nigh impossible as Nathan Good would add a seventh to Durham's goal tally 30 minutes into the match. Eddie Robertson's side were on top and had solidified their semi final place.

DMU'S Ilyas Zeryouh would be forced off 32 minutes into the match with an injury due to an awkward landing after going for a header.

Hamrad would add another goal to his tally with only five minutes remaining in the match to get the home side's third goal.

Hallas' side were unable to find anything else in the match as the referee blew the final whistle with their cup run ending in the quarter-finals.
